We had high hopes placed on a large batch of our beloved Hunter Dee bits with slightly smaller cheeks, particularly for pony sizes. Our usual cheek size is 85x65mm, but a mix-up in production resulted in larger-than-usual cheeks, which we discovered only once the boxes were opened.

Now, we have a unique batch of Hunter Dees with oversized cheeks. Here are the exact dimensions (inside to inside) compared to our usual size (85x65mm):

• 4.5": 80x65mm
• 4.75": 80x70mm
• 5": 85x70mm
• 5.25": 85x70mm

There is absolutely nothing wrong with these bits aside from the larger cheeks, which may look a bit big on smaller horses. However, if you prefer the larger cheekpiece look, have an extra hole in your bridle, or just want to try out this mouthpiece, this is your golden opportunity. The shape, the material and the features of the CalmBlue tongue relief mouthpiece are all centered around creating acceptance, calmness and enhanced communication while minimising any unnecessary pressure.

The Calmblue mouthpiece shape encourages free movement of the tongue and redistributes pressure away from the center of the tongue that many bits with classic link designs create.

The cannons of the bit move independently to create a precision in communication between the rider and the horse. The movement of the cannons in this bit approximately correspond to a level 1-2 mouthpiece of similar bits from other brands.

The CalmBlue mouthpiece is made of sweet iron which releases a sweet taste as it gets in contact with saliva that many horses prefer.

The copper roller on the barrel allows the bit to glide up and down the tongue as reins are engaged more freely without creating additional pressure points.

This bit features a Hunter Style D ring cheekpiece which is a fixed cheekpiece that offers more stability. The extended bar on the cheekpiece adds support which makes it a good choice for horses that might struggle through turns.

Please note that sweet iron bits oxidise naturally and the blue parts will over time develop a thin layer of rust and turn brown/grey. This is by design as the "rust" is what creates the taste so many horses love.
