Our Baby Blue Weymouth is the perfect intro mouthpiece for the double bridle.

The shorter shanks (50mm) create less leverage than a typical Weymouth making it a great option for sensitive horses or those just starting out in the double bridle.

This Weymouth has a gentle curve (20mm) to create space for the tongue and medium thickness to accommodate a variety of anatomies.

Made of sweet iron this mouthpiece releases a sweet taste as it gets in contact with saliva that many horses prefer.

Mouthpiece thickness: 4.75" and above - 15mm ; up to 4.5" - 12mm

Please note that sweet iron bits oxidise naturally and the blue parts will over time develop a thin layer of rust and turn brown/grey. This is by design as the "rust" is what creates the taste so many horses love.

A first Weymouth when moving up to a double bridle: no port, a gentle curve, and it sits low, which reduces interference with the bradoon
Sensitive horses transitioning to a double: the short 5cm shanks give mild leverage and the thicker profile spreads pressure over a wider surface

Worth knowing:

The thicker profile may be too much for a horse with limited room in its mouth
This bit will rust, and it needs to: the surface patina is what creates the warm, sweet taste. Do not submerge it in water or expose it to excessively humid or moist environments, and always wipe it dry after use to ensure longevity and function

Baby Blue Mouthpiece

This mouthpiece has a gentle curve (20mm) to create space for the tongue and higher medium thickness to maximise the surface area while accommodating a variety of anatomies. A simple design it is often preferred by horses seeking additional stability.

Weymouth Cheekpiece

Weymouth curbs are used in a double bridle to refine communication and encourage collection, applying pressure to the bars, tongue, and poll, with the curb chain balancing pressure across the jaw. Selecting the right combination of shank length and mouthpiece ensures comfort and effectiveness for the horse.

Sweet Iron

Sweet iron is a blue iron alloy designed to oxidize over time, creating a sweet taste that encourages salivation. As it rusts, it develops a patina that enhances flavor, which many horses find appealing. While sweet iron promotes a moist mouth, it does wear over time and requires maintenance. To care for it, wipe the bit after use to prevent excessive rust buildup, store it in a dry place when not in use, and scrub gently with a cloth or mild abrasive if excessive rust forms.
