BarRelief Bits
Engineered for bar-sensitive horses, the BarRelief mouthpiece design prioritizes pressure distribution and anatomical alignment to help horses stay relaxed, round, and confident in the bridle.
Unlike traditional double-jointed bits that often collapse forward and direct pressure down onto the tongue and bars, the BarRelief mouthpiece features an angled central lozenge and shaped cannons that contour with the tongue and align with the bore axis. This limits the degree of downward rotation when rein tension is applied. As a result, it helps avoid the typical “pinch and dig” that many bits cause when they rotate and compress the lips and tongue tissue.
Instead of concentrating rein force directly downward onto the sensitive lower jaw bars, the BarRelief design redistributes the pressure to the more cushioned tongue line and into the corners of the lips. This makes it particularly suited for horses with sharp or thin bars, those that evade contact by lifting or shaking the head, or those who have developed a negative association with the bit due to discomfort.
