The shape, the material and the features of the CalmBlue tongue relief mouthpiece are all centered around creating acceptance, calmness and enhanced communication while minimising any unnecessary pressure.

The Calmblue mouthpiece shape encourages free movement of the tongue and redistributes pressure away from the center of the tongue that many bits with classic link designs create.

The cannons of the bit move independently to create a precision in communication between the rider and the horse.

The CalmBlue mouthpiece is made of sweet iron which releases a sweet taste as it gets in contact with saliva that many horses prefer.

The copper roller on the barrel allows the bit to glide up and down the tongue as reins are engaged more freely without creating additional pressure points.

Eggbutt cheekpieces are often preferred by young horses or those who require more stability in mouth than the loose ring offers.

A simple bit, it often is a good starting piece for a young horse who is beginning their training.

Mouthpiece thickness: 10mm

Please note that sweet iron bits oxidise naturally and the blue parts will over time develop a thin layer of rust and turn brown/grey. This is by design as the "rust" is what creates the taste so many horses love.

Calmblue Mouthpiece

The shape, the material and the features of the CalmBlue tongue relief mouthpiece are all centered around creating acceptance, calmness and enhanced communication while minimising any unnecessary pressure. The Calmblue mouthpiece shape encourages free movement of the tongue, minimises any pinching and redistributes pressure away from the center of the tongue that many bits with classic link designs create.

Eggbutt Cheekpiece

Eggbutt cheekpiece is a simple cheekpiece without leverage. It provides more stability than loose ring bits, which often makes it a great choice for young horses still learning, more sensitive and reactive horses and riders with less experienced hands.

Sweet Iron

Sweet iron is a blue iron alloy designed to oxidize over time, creating a sweet taste that encourages salivation. As it rusts, it develops a patina that enhances flavor, which many horses find appealing. While sweet iron promotes a moist mouth, it does wear over time and requires maintenance. To care for it, wipe the bit after use to prevent excessive rust buildup, store it in a dry place when not in use, and scrub gently with a cloth or mild abrasive if excessive rust forms.

Thin bit for horses with small mouths

Using this bit for my just started 3 y/o mare. She is very sensitive and tends to be fussy in the contact if she’s not liking her bit. This one she seems to like. There is a lot less range of motion in this bit, than your typical double jointed lozenge type.

From the first ride my horse loves the bit and is so much lighter on her front end. It's the best investment!

Theo approved!

Theo seems to really really love this bit. I've given it a few months and the rust part has come through very nicely, he accepts it well, doesn't fuss with it, and willing moves forward and engages it!

Thank you for the wonderful update! We’re so happy to hear Theo is loving the bit, that kind of acceptance and willingness is exactly what we aim for. It’s great to know the sweet iron has developed nicely over time, and that he’s moving forward and engaging with confidence. Wishing you both continued connection and happy rides ahead!

We love it!

My horse is 27 years old and his previous owner showed him in a double corkscrew, which I felt was much too harsh. He used to root and pull every ride. With this calming bit he is soft and goes on the buckle in all three gaits. Wish I had know about this bit years ago!

Thank you so much for sharing your story! It’s incredibly rewarding to hear that your 27-year-old partner is now soft, relaxed, and going happily in all three gaits, what a beautiful transformation. We're so glad the calming bit has made such a positive difference for him after everything he’s been through. Wishing you both many more gentle, joyful rides together, and thank you for giving him such a thoughtful second chapter
