SmoothRide Eggbutt Snaffle

SmoothRide bits are made of stainless steel bits that have been sanded down for horses comfort.

This bit features a curved mouthpiece as well as cleverly designed lozenge which continues along the anatomical shape of the bit. The curvature in this bit creates a mild tongue relief if worn in the classic way.

The loose ring, eggbutt, elevator and gag bits of this line can be used “upside down” to provide mild bar relief and give you a hint whether your horse prefers more pressure to be directed towards the center or the side of the tongue above bars.

We find this to be a great starter bit and a less expensive alternative to other premium bits as it is versatile, generally well accepted and tends to take up less space in the horse’s mouth without being unnecessarily harsh than many other alternatives.

We find that horses that resist the flat links often seen in classic double jointed snaffles tend to like the smoothness of this bit.

Eggbutt cheekpieces are often preferred by young horses or those who require more stability in mouth than the loose ring offers.

A simple bit, it often is a good starting piece for a young horse who is beginning their training.

Smoothride Mouthpiece

SmoothRide mouthpiece features a curved mouthpiece as well as cleverly designed lozenge with a copper roller which continues along the anatomical shape of the bit. A gentle , medium thickness starter option for horses at various stages of training.

Eggbutt Cheekpiece

Eggbutt cheekpiece is a simple cheekpiece without leverage. It provides more stability than loose ring bits, which often makes it a great choice for young horses still learning, more sensitive and reactive horses and riders with less experienced hands.

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is a highly durable, non-rusting metal that remains smooth and neutral in taste. It is one of the most common materials for bits due to its strength and longevity. Unlike sweet iron or German silver, it does not encourage salivation, but it provides a reliable and maintenance-free option. To care for stainless steel bits, rinse with water and dry after each use, polish occasionally to maintain shine, and disinfect with mild solutions when necessary.

Wonderful starter bit!

My fussy youngster who needs a larger sized bit loves this one, and it was significantly more affordable than the other options. Fantastic customer service and quick shipping.
