About Sweet Iron — Sweet iron naturally develops a rust-like patina over time. This is completely normal and actually beneficial — the oxidation creates a warm, sweet taste that encourages salivation and bit acceptance. Simply wipe dry after use to maintain your bit.
The BlueRide Angled mouthpiece features a double-jointed design with a German silver lozenge set at a 45-degree angle to better follow the natural shape of the tongue.
The angled lozenge encourages a flatter, more stable contact across the tongue, helping avoid uneven pressure and promoting clearer communication. This thoughtful positioning allows the mouthpiece to settle more smoothly when rein contact is taken.
The cannons are made from sweet iron to encourage acceptance and a relaxed response. As the sweet iron reacts with saliva, it develops a mild taste that many horses prefer, supporting salivation and a softer mouth. Combined with the angled German silver lozenge, this mouthpiece is well suited for horses that benefit from a more refined, balanced double-jointed design and a calm, consistent feel in the contact.
Eggbutt cheekpiece is a simple cheekpiece without leverage. It provides more stability than loose ring bits, which often makes it a great choice for young horses still learning, more sensitive and reactive horses and riders with less experienced hands.
Mouthpiece thickness: 14mm
Is this bit right for my horse?
Riders often choose this bit for:
- Young horses: the lozenge is set on a 45 degree angle so it follows the tongue and sits flatter
Worth knowing:
- Sweet iron develops a warm taste that encourages salivation
- This bit will rust, and it needs to: the surface patina is what creates the warm, sweet taste. Do not submerge it in water or expose it to excessively humid or moist environments, and always wipe it dry after use to ensure longevity and function
The eggbutt keeps the bit still. A good match for busy-mouthed horses and those that prefer stability.
Every horse is an individual. If you are not sure, take our two minute quiz or write to hello@agadors.com and we will help you decide.
