BlueShape Baby Pelham
Want a customisation or a size we currently don't carry? Pre-order a custom bit with our build a bit tool.
Our BlueShape Hunter D-Ring features a gentle multi-link design crafted from sweet iron, combining the responsiveness of a Waterford with smoother, more comfortable articulation. The individually polished and rounded links have been carefully designed to create a mouthpiece that's effective without being harsh.
The multi-link design helps prevent leaning and fixing against the contact, while maintaining a more refined feel compared to traditional Waterford bits. Each link has been thoughtfully shaped and smoothed to distribute pressure more evenly across the tongue and bars, avoiding sharp pressure points that can cause resistance.
Sweet iron naturally oxidizes when in contact with saliva, creating a warm, sweet taste that many horses prefer. This encourages acceptance and helps promote a soft, consistent contact.
Pelham combines the action of the double bridle into a single bit amplifying the action of the mouthpiece and providing additional pressure and lift. It offers a high degree of precision and control by exerting pressure on the lips, the chin and somewhat on the poll.
Pelhams can be used with a double rein to separate the lever action of the curb and the snaffle as in the double bridle, or a converter which would mediate the action between the snaffle and the curb rein to somewhere in the middle. The curb chain must be fitted so that shanks cannot move past 45 degrees upon engagement of the reins for correct bit action.
We recommend this bit for:
- Horses that lean or brace against traditional snaffles
- Riders seeking an effective but gentler alternative to classic Waterford bits
- Horses that respond well to sweet iron
- Show jumping and cross-country where enhanced control is valued
The BlueShape's innovative design offers an intelligent solution for challenging contact issues while prioritizing the horse's comfort.
Mouthpiece thickness: 12mm
Shank Length: 5cm (2")
Please note that sweet iron bits oxidise naturally and the blue parts will over time develop a thin layer of rust and turn brown/grey. This is by design as the "rust" is what creates the taste so many horses love.
