Special Edition: BlueWave Hunter D-Ring
BlueWave mullen mouthpiece features an anatomically curved extra wide port and meticulously rounded edges to provide exceptional comfort while maintaining clear communication.
Made of sweet iron this mouthpiece over time will develop a thin layer of rust that releases sweet taste that many horses enjoy.
This bit offers the maximum tongue relief among our mullen mouthpieces featuring both a curve and a port. The forward-curved port design works in harmony with the natural shape of the tongue, providing ample space for movement and swallowing.
The D Ring cheekpiece is a gentle yet versatile choice and is suitable for all training levels. It can be useful to think of a D Ring cheekpiece as a hybrid between the eggbutt and the full cheek offering both stability and enhanced lateral control by applying some pressure on the cheeks when steering. D-Ring cheekpieces are particularly popular in the Western and Hunter rings.
Mouthpiece thickness: 13mm
Please note that sweet iron bits oxidise naturally and the blue parts will over time develop a thin layer of rust and turn brown/grey. This is by design as the "rust" is what creates the taste so many horses love.

Is this bit right for my horse?
Riders often choose this bit for:
- Horses that need the most tongue space: a wide, pronounced port
- Thick tongues
Worth knowing:
- The port sits high, so the horse needs enough vertical room in the mouth
- Not for horses that chew the bit with their teeth: the port gives molars something to grab
- This bit will rust, and it needs to: the surface patina is what creates the warm, sweet taste. Do not submerge it in water or expose it to excessively humid or moist environments, and always wipe it dry after use to ensure longevity and function
The D-ring gives the stability of a fixed ring with a wide, steady contact area.
Every horse is an individual. If you are not sure, take our two minute quiz or write to hello@agadors.com and we will help you decide.
