This CalmBlue Dressage mouthpiece version features an innovative tapered design that combines FEI/EC compliance with our signature tongue relief system. The mouthpiece maintains 12mm diameter at the cheeks to meet international competition requirements while tapering to 10mm in the center - perfect for horses needing more tongue space without sacrificing stability.

This intelligent design offers the best of both worlds: the thicker cheek sections provide enhanced stability while the slimmer center portion preserves the anatomical comfort that made the original CalmBlue so popular.

Crafted in sweet iron with our signature blue coating, this bit naturally oxidizes to create a pleasant taste that encourages acceptance. The fixed copper inlay in the barrel (non-rotating to ensure competition legality) maintains FEI/USEF/EC compliance while enhancing the taste profile.

The loose ring bradoon cheekpiece allows for greater mobility, encouraging softer responses and promoting relaxation in the jaw. This makes it an excellent choice for double bridle setups or for horses that benefit from lighter, more nuanced rein aids.

Features:

  • Competition-legal 12mm cheeks tapering to 10mm center
  • Fully compliant within USEF/FEI/EC
  • Fixed copper inlay
  • Independent cannon movement
  • Sweet iron construction
  • Bradoon cheekpiece suitable for double bridles

Note: Sweet iron bits naturally oxidize over time, with the blue coating developing a brown/grey patina. This process releases the pleasant taste many horses prefer.

CalmBlue Mouthpiece

The CalmBlue Dressage mouthpiece version features an innovative tapered design that combines FEI/EC compliance with the U shaped tongue relief design. The mouthpiece maintains 12mm diameter at the cheeks to meet international competition requirements while tapering to 10mm in the center - perfect for horses needing more tongue space.

Loose Ring Bradoon Cheekpiece

Bradoon bits have smaller ring diameters than regular sized snaffles and are typically used in a double bridle. The Loose Ring cheekpiece is designed to encourage softness and responsiveness. The freely rotating rings allow the bit to move independently from the mouthpiece, preventing the horse from leaning or bracing against it. This mobility promotes relaxation, added responsiveness and a lighter connection. Loose ring is a great option for horses that need refinement in aids due to higher level work or those that can sometimes feel stiff in the connection and would benefit from more responsiveness.

Sweet Iron

Sweet iron is a blue iron alloy designed to oxidize over time, creating a sweet taste that encourages salivation. As it rusts, it develops a patina that enhances flavor, which many horses find appealing. While sweet iron promotes a moist mouth, it does wear over time and requires maintenance. To care for it, wipe the bit after use to prevent excessive rust buildup, store it in a dry place when not in use, and scrub gently with a cloth or mild abrasive if excessive rust forms.

My horse loves it!

My mare has a shallow mouth and cannot tolerate any thick snaffle bit or bradoon. She is completely quiet and happy with this bradoon by itself, and will put it with the curb bit that she likes by itself. I hope the combination will work for her.

Thank you for sharing this! We’re so glad to hear your mare is happy and comfortable with the bradoon, especially given her sensitivity and shallow mouth. It’s wonderful that she’s quiet and accepting, and we hope the combination with her preferred curb works beautifully for her. Wishing you both continued comfort and success in your rides!
