The shape, the material and the features of the CalmBlue tongue relief mouthpiece are all centered around creating acceptance, calmness and enhanced communication while minimising any unnecessary pressure.

The Calmblue mouthpiece shape encourages free movement of the tongue and redistributes pressure away from the center of the tongue that many bits with classic link designs create.

The cannons of the bit move independently to create a precision in communication between the rider and the horse.

The CalmBlue mouthpiece is made of sweet iron which releases a sweet taste as it gets in contact with saliva that many horses prefer.

While the regular CalmBlue mouthpiece has a copper roller on the barrel to enhance acceptance and communication this bit is an adapted version where the copper is set and not rolling to make the bit explicitly dressage legal.

This bit features a loose ring cheekpiece which enables the bit to move more in the horses mouth. This facilitates a subtler, more precise communication and is great for horses that are more advanced in their training or those preferring a less subtle signal from the bit.

Mouthpiece thickness: 12mm tapered to 10mm towards centre

Please note that sweet iron bits oxidise naturally and the blue parts will over time develop a thin layer of rust and turn brown/grey. This is by design as the "rust" is what creates the taste so many horses love.

Calmblue Mouthpiece

The CalmBlue Dressage mouthpiece version features an innovative tapered design that combines FEI/EC compliance with the U shaped tongue relief design. The mouthpiece maintains 12mm diameter at the cheeks to meet international competition requirements while tapering to 10mm in the center - perfect for horses needing more tongue space.

Loose Ring Cheekpiece

The Loose Ring cheekpiece is designed to encourage softness and responsiveness. The freely rotating rings allow the bit to move independently from the mouthpiece, preventing the horse from leaning or bracing against it. This mobility promotes relaxation, added responsiveness and a lighter connection. Loose ring is a great option for horses that need refinement in aids due to higher level work or those that can sometimes feel stiff in the connection and would benefit from more responsiveness.

Sweet Iron

Sweet iron is a blue iron alloy designed to oxidize over time, creating a sweet taste that encourages salivation. As it rusts, it develops a patina that enhances flavor, which many horses find appealing. While sweet iron promotes a moist mouth, it does wear over time and requires maintenance. To care for it, wipe the bit after use to prevent excessive rust buildup, store it in a dry place when not in use, and scrub gently with a cloth or mild abrasive if excessive rust forms.

Quality is not up to par, the blue rubbed almost completely off after one use. My horse did not like the bit.

Thank you for sharing your experience, we’re truly sorry to hear this bit didn’t meet expectations for you or your horse. That’s not the quality standard we aim for, and we’d really like to make it right. Sweet iron is a blue iron alloy designed to oxidize over time, creating a sweet taste that encourages salivation. As it rusts, it develops a patina that enhances flavor, which many horses find appealing. We appreciate your feedback and the opportunity to improve.

Rubbing corners of lips.

I had high hopes for this bit and my horse does love this mouth piece. However, the holes where the rings go through are not rounded very well (they are a little sharp/rough) and the corners of my horse's mouth is being rubbed sore by them. The sizing of this bit has been approved by both my trainer and my horse's certified dental specialist DVM.

Thank you so much for your honest and thoughtful feedback, we’re really glad to hear your horse loves the mouthpiece, but we’re truly sorry to learn about the rubbing issue. That’s absolutely not what we want for you or your horse. We appreciate you sharing the detail about sizing and professional input, and we’d love the chance to make this right or explore a solution with you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team, we’re here to help.
