Mullen Mouth Bits

Mullen mouth bits offer a stable, joint-free design ideal for horses that benefit from consistent, bar-focused pressure. With a gently curved or straight solid mouthpiece, these bits are designed to rest steadily across the tongue and bars, providing clear, uninterrupted communication between horse and rider.

Unlike jointed bits, Mullen mouthpieces apply steady pressure to the bars of the lower jaw. This makes them suitable for horses that:

• Are sensitive to tongue pressure or movement,

• Have low or shallow palates,

• Require simplicity and stability in their bitting setup.

Because there is no central joint, Mullen bits do not collapse in the mouth. This can result in greater bar engagement especially if the horse retracts its tongue to avoid pressure so proper sizing and mouth conformation assessment are essential to ensure comfort.
